Having Said That…

I finally finished the 9th season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I’d DVRed. Any other fans out there?
I know some people find Larry David too annoying to watch, but really, he is a genius.
Here’s a nice little bit from the last episode.

Okay, I have to admit that was funny but in all fairness, it had Jason Alexander in it.

Huge fan. In my experience, there are two kinds of people - those who can’t stand to watch awkward moments (almost a visceral reaction to turn the head - I used to be one of these people) and those of us who see those moments for the mother lode of comedic potential that they represent. Larry David, and to some extent Jerry, well deserve the label of genius for showing the seemingly limitless potential there (Jerry, to be fair, deserves it more for his writing, timing, and delivery - an art unto itself). Awkward humor, at least Larry’s intelligent variety, is hard to watch at times, but the rewards are so, so worth it. I hope he does the show for another 10 years.
“Denise Handicapped” might be my favorite from last season.

I want to have a “survivor” over to dinner, myself.

If you are a fan of the show (and I am a huge one), then you really need to see the interview that Ricky Gervais did with Larry David. It originally aired on British TV and now can be found in a series of videos on Youtube. I have linked to the first one below. Enjoy.

Egret, I am a CYE novice. I watched this clip with an eye to the awkwardness you commented on, but I have to say that this didn’t rise to the level of uncomfortable for me AT ALL. Funny? Ab-solutely. Awkward - yes, a little. But if people can’t take at least a little tension in their conversations, how do they survive at cocktail parties, or anywhere else? Never watched CYE before, but always wanted to, and now I will order a full DVD set b//c I cannot get enough!

Having said that, I can’t resist saying how very Seinfeld the whole thing is. Yada yada yada. *I know, right?*
