They Get Paid How Much?

The Globe runs a list, originally from the Chronicle of Higher Education, of the best-paid college presidents.
Leading the list, at $2.8 million a year, is David Sargent of Suffolk University.
Huh? Sargent is receiving that enormous amount even as Moody’s lowers its long-term bond rating on Suffolk University.
Lee Bollinger tops the Ivy League, at $1.4 million a year. Rick Levin rakes in just under a million. Drew Faust hasn’t been president long enough, apparently, to have her salary reported.

To be fair, there is a huge lag time on these surveys. This is what he got paid a year or so ago.
On the other hand, one struggles to imagine what’s so great about the president of Suffolk University even a year ago, and why the trustees would listen to a compensation consultant who said he was “woefully underpaid” at $500,000 per year. Is this the consultant’s first nonprofit gig?
