âHarvardâs got a white supremacist legacy, itâs got a male supremacist legacy, itâs got an anti-Semitic legacy and a homophobic legacy. So you choose to be a part of the legacy thatâs critical, and Harvard has much to offer.â

What of it? A typically smart comment, prominently featuring West’s strength in leveraging the good parts of the intellectual tradition — as he says, Harvard has much to offer in the area of critical (and progressive) inquiry.

That’s an awfully big chunk of bait you’re dangling there Richard ;-).

Wait, isn’t Cornel West at Princeton? If he’s saying his current institution is down with the homies I’m taking back his rap CD for a refund.

Here’s how Princeton looked to the Crimson, a half-century ago.

I’m curious whether the work on and promotional tour for West’s CD partially explains why he’s seemingly taught no classes last semester, nor is he this semester?

Perhaps West, like Professor Larry Summers, is simply on leave… and spending it in whatever manner he finds useful. Professor West does not appear to be the kind of person who would want to take time away from his scholarly work, or from his work as a public intellectual, to spend managing say… a hedge fund.

Well, maybe if West can find time to record another rap CD while remaining true to his standing as a public intellectual, perhaps Summers can take time on his leave to manage a hedge fund while also remaining active in the field of economics, his speciality.
