Leave Bill Belichick Alone!

Honestly, our pop culture gets weirder and more brilliant every day.
(Not sure if the Harvard folks will get this.)

Who is Bill Belichick? Is he a candidate for the endowment manager position?

I suspect the first post was a joke, you can’t live in this area without knowing who Bill is , I bet Rich was surprised we at Harvard recognized the Britney fan imitation though,(admittedly I had help from the twentysomething son of a coworker)

Well, yes, somewhat surprised. But trust me, there’s nothing terribly wrong with being unaware of a pathetic fan tribute to Britney Spears on YouTube.

You’re wrong there, RB. That’s exactly what’s wrong with Harvard (and New York and DC and LA). The inability of the privileged to grasp the zeitgeist of the trailer park can be linked to the willingness of the US Congress to go to war because we had to get ride of phantom WMDs. Its all one tight circle of class and exploitation — because its the yahoos from the trailer parks and the Main Streets of USA, not the Harvardites or the New Yorkers (or the Congressmen) who send their kids off to Iraq to be be roasted and butchered like dead animal meat.

10:29 AM, I’m well aware of where most of the kids fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan are coming from…my kind of people…maybe not just trailer park yahoos but row housing working class too. But so too are the privileged aware you may be sure of that. And I know RB knows that too…not everybody in New York and LA and DC and Harvard has been in favour of this war…far from it. If you paid closer attention you’d know that. Now…are you telling me that because I’m not from any of these places and am working class I have to be aware of the pathetic fan tribute to Britney Spears on YouTube…or any fan tribute to Britney…oh please no! (And I had to look up Bill Belichick.)

It’s a great spin off from the Britney tribute video, which, yes, I’d seen, at least the first part (couldn’t bear to watch the whole thing). (”Yes I’m really crying! if you see full screen you can see real tears” was the best part.)
Whether we’ve seen it or not probably says something about our age, more than about whether we’re “Harvardites.” I’m getting pretty tired of the stereotype of the ivory tower professor detached from some gritty reality or culture. (As if having seen a youtube video that was linked to from scores of sites, including Drudge, somehow reflects a greater access to the working class experience?!)
(Speaking of yahoos, just taught Gulliver’s Travels today! and used an article from the Onion to kick start discussion of satire. Hope that doesn’t make me an effete wanker.)

Yes, you are an effete wanker.
